CAMPBELL JOINS SPORTING LISBON IN SURPRISE MOVE

English Premier League side Arsenal made a surprise move this summer with the loaning of Joel Campbell.

Sporting Lisbon confirmed the transfer of Arsenal forward Cambell on a season-long loan via its official twitter handle – @Sporting_CP. The Costa Rica international was set to get more chances with the long term injury of Danny Welbeck, even as coach Arsene Wenger is keen on adding another striker before the transfer window closes.

Campbell joined Arsenal back in 2011, but has played four seasons out on loan already. The 24-year old player has spent time with Lorient, Real Betis, Olympiacos and Villarreal. He is set to join his international teammate Bryan Ruiz at the Estadio Jose Alvalade – home to Sporting. A statement from the north London club when the new broke out reads: “Everyone at Arsenal wishes Joel a successful season in Portugal.”

Arsenal are under pressure to splash the cash after their 4-3 loss to Liverpool and 0-0 draw when they played the defending champions Leicester City. Wenger has admitted that he could spend as much as £300 million if he finds the right player, adding that he wasn’t reluctant in spending as may believe.

Arsenal have taken a serious hit even as the season is just starting out with key players injured. Centre defenders Per Mertesacker and Gabriel are out injured, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Iwobi came off injured in the Liverpool game. However, there seems to be good news as Wenger claimed Danny Welbeck could make a return in December.

“If the healing was not good, he would have been out until April. The news was excellent and he will be back around Christmas,” Wenger said. On his transfer policy, he added: “We have been in the market a long time but if you look around in Europe, all my friends I call are looking for centre-backs but they cannot find them.”
